What is the XAT exam?

  • The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is an all-India-level management entrance examination to enter the prestigious Xavier School of Management (XLRI) and various other associated management institutes.
  • For more than 74 years, XLRI has conducted the XAT exam at all India level to select the most appropriate candidate for management education.
  • XLRI conducts the XAT exam every January on behalf of XLRI Associate Member Institutes (XAMI).
  • The XAT exam is conducted across 70+ XAT exam centres across the country, with almost every state having at least one XAT exam centre.
  • More than 160 institutes are using XAT exam scores for admission.

  • XLRI announces the XAT Application Dates and the entire schedule for XAT every year in July. The registration process starts immediately, which includes filling out the XAT Application Form and paying the XAT Exam Fees.
  • XLRI announces all the details regarding the XAT Application Form and the XAT Application Fees and XAT Application Fees for applying to programmes of XLRI on its official website (xatonline.in)
  • The Stepwise Registration Process is given below:
    1. Register Yourself on the official website (xatonline.in)
    2. Verify your Email ID
    3. Fill out the Online XAT Application Form
    4. Upload Required Documents
    5. Select the Programs you want to apply for at XLRI in the XAT Application Form itself
    6. Select the Preferred cities for the XAT Exam in the correct order of preference
    7. Pay XAT Application Form Fees
    8. Review your XAT Application Form
    9. Submit Your XAT Application Form

XAT Application Form: Stepwise Process to Fill XAT Application Form

  • Candidates should take extra care while filling out the XAT Application Form as they won't be able to change or edit it once submitted.
  • If important details like Name/Parent’s Name are not provided, candidates might not be able to appear for the exam as their verification at the entrance would fail.
  • The Stepwise Process for filling out the Application Form as per the XAT guidelines is listed below:
    1. If the candidates cannot complete the XAT application form in one go, they can save the data already entered by choosing “SAVE and Next”.
    2. Candidates are advised to fill out the XAT Application Form themselves, as no changes will be possible or entertained after clicking the FINAL SUBMIT BUTTON.
    3. The name of the Candidate/Parent’s Name should be spelt correctly as it appears in the certificates/Mark Sheets/Identity Proof. Any Change/alteration found may disqualify the candidature.
    4. The candidate needs to scan and upload a Photo & Signature as per the specifications.
    5. The candidate must complete the XAT Application form's Academic & Work Experience Details.
    6. The Candidate should click the Preview tab to preview and verify the XAT Application Form before clicking the final submit button.
    7. Modify details, if required, and submit only after ensuring that all the details and documents filled in the XAT Application Form are correct. “Applicant Details can not be changed once the form is submitted after XAT Application Fees payment.”
    8. Select the XLRI programme as per your preference if you wish to study in XLRI.
    9. Select XAT Test City Preference.
    10. Click the “Payment” Tab to pay XAT Application Form Fees.
    11. Once you receive verification about paying the XAT application fees, click on the “Submit” button.

XAT Application Form: Documents Required for Filling the XAT Application Form

  • Candidates should have certain documents ready by their side while filling out the XAT Application Form.
  • If candidates don’t have these documents it is advisable to get them ready before XAT Application Dates.
  • Candidates need to upload only the scanned copy of their Photograph and Signature in the XAT Application Form, while the other documents are required for making the correct entries to the XAT Application Form.
  • It is important to note that all the details entered in the XAT Application Form are verified before admission to the colleges, and if any details are found incorrect, institutes might revoke the offer provided to the students.
  • The important documents candidates should have handy while filling out the XAT Application Form are listed below:

XAT Application Form: Payment of XAT Application Form Fees

  • XAT Application Form Fees: Rs. 2000/- to Rs. 2100/-
  • XAT Application Form Fees for application to XLRI Programmes: Rs. 200/- per Program
  • Indian Candidates can also apply for PGDM(GM) through GMAT/GRE, whereas NRI/Foreign nationals can apply for all programmes through GMAT. It should be noted that GRE Scores are valid only for PGDM(GM).
  • XAT Application Form Fees for Indian Candidates applying for PGDM(GM) through GMAT/GRE – Rs. 2500/-
  • XAT Application Form Fees for NRI/Foreign candidates applying for one or more programmes through GMAT– Rs. 5000/-

XAT Application Form: Instructions for Photograph

  • XLRI always uploads the instructions for the Photograph on its website for the candidates. For the XAT Application Form, it is necessary to follow the instructions and click the Photograph accordingly.
  • If the file size and format are not as prescribed, an error message will be displayed. While filling in the Online XAT Application Form the candidate will be provided with a link to upload his photograph and signature.
  • The instructions for the XAT Application Form for 2024 are listed below:
    1. The photograph must be a recent passport-size colour picture.
    2. If the picture is taken on a sunny day, have the sun behind you, or place yourself in the shade, so that you are not squinting and there are no harsh shadows.
    3. Look straight at the camera with a relaxed face.
    4. If you have to use flash, ensure there's no "red-eye".
    5. If you wear glasses, make sure that there are no reflections, and your eyes can be clearly seen.
    6. Caps, hats, and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed, but it must not cover the face.
    7. Ensure that the size of the scanned image should be between 20KB-50KB. If the size of the file is more than 50KB, then adjust the settings of the scanner, such as the DPI resolution, no. of colours, etc., during the process of scanning.
  • Procedure for Uploading the Photograph:
    1. Set the scanner resolution to a minimum of 200 dpi (dots per inch).
    2. Set Colour to True Colour.
    3. File Size as specified above.
    4. Crop the image in the scanner to the edge of the photograph/signature, then use the upload editor to crop the image to the final size (as specified above).
    5. The image file should be JPG or JPEG format. An example file name is image01.jpg or image01.jpeg. Image dimensions can be checked by listing the folder files or moving the mouse over the file image icon. Candidates using MS Windows/MS Office can easily obtain photos and signatures in .jpeg format not exceeding 50KB by using MS Paint or MS Office Picture Manager. Scanned photographs and signatures in any format can be saved in .jpg format by using the 'Save As' option in the File menu, and the size can be reduced below 50KB (photograph & signature) by using the crop and then the resize option.

  • XLRI always releases the instructions for the Signature Image on its website for the candidates. For the XAT Application Form, it is necessary to follow the instructions and click the Photograph accordingly.
  • If the file size and format are not as prescribed, an error message will be displayed. While filling in the Online XAT Application Form the candidate will be provided with a link to upload his photograph and signature.
  • The instructions for the XAT Application Form for 2024 are listed below:
    1. The applicant has to sign on white paper with a Black Ink pen.
    2. The signature must be signed only by the applicant and not by any other person.
    3. The Signature will be used to put on the ADMIT CARD and wherever necessary.
    4. The Applicant’s signature obtained on the ADMIT CARD and attendance sheet at the time of the examination should match the uploaded signature. In case of a mismatch, the candidate may be disqualified.
    5. Ensure that the size of the scanned image should be between 20KB – 50KB.
  • Procedure for Uploading the Signature:
    1. There will be two separate links for uploading a Photograph and Signature.
    2. Click on the respective link "Upload Photograph / Signature".
    3. Browse & Select the location where the Scanned Photo/ Signature file has been saved.
    4. Select the file by clicking on it.
    5. Click on the "Upload" button.

XAT Application Form: Instructions for Candidates while paying XAT Application Fees

  • After paying the XAT application form fees, you can download/print XAT application forms containing details of the XAT Application fees.
  • The XAT application form is integrated with the payment gateway, and the XAT Application Form fee payment process can be completed by following the instructions.
  • The XAT Application Form Fees can be paid using Debit Cards (RuPay / Visa / Master Card / Maestro), Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards, or mobile Wallets.
  • After submitting your XAT Application Form Fees payment information, please wait for the intimation from the server. Do not press the back or refresh button to avoid double payment of XAT Application Fees.
  • An e-receipt will be generated upon successful completion of the transaction. The non-generation of an e-receipt indicates PAYMENT FAILURE. If payment fails, Candidates are advised to log in again using their registered Email ID and Password and repeat the process of paying the XAT Application Fees.
  • Candidates must take a printout of the e-receipt and online XAT Application Form. Please note that online transactions may not have been successful if the same cannot be generated.
  • For Card charges are listed in Indian Rupee. If you use a non-Indian credit card, your bank will convert it to your local currency based on prevailing exchange rates.
