New Update on MPCJ Eligibility
Timeline of Recent Changes in MPCJ Eligibility Criteria as of December 2023:
June 24, 2023: The Madhya Pradesh High Court (MPHC) introduced new eligibility criteria for the Madhya Pradesh Civil Judge (MPCJ) exam, mandating either a 70% score in graduation without backlogs or 3 years of legal practice.
October 2023: This order was contested in the Supreme Court, which subsequently directed the petitioners to seek redress from the MPHC.
November 17, 2023: MPHC modified its earlier decision, adding a requirement for a mandatory 3-year practice certificate, supported by at least six 'vakalatnamas' annually in orders or judgments.
December 11, 2023: Following a challenge in the MPHC, the court issued a new notification particularly for OBC candidates, easing the criteria from a 70% aggregate in the 3 to 5 years law degree to 50%.
December 15, 2023: The MPHC informed the Supreme Court that for the 2023 Civil Judge Junior Division (Entry Level) Recruitment exam, all applicants would be allowed to participate, regardless of whether they fulfill the criteria of a minimum of 3 years of bar practice post-enrollment or securing 70% in graduation.

Madhya Pradesh High Court has prescribed specific criteria for the Madhya Pradesh Judicial Services Exam, which is conducted annually to fill various civil judge posts. As per the MPCJ official notification, your online application can be processed only if you satisfy the eligibility criteria set by the exam conducting body.
The MP Judiciary Eligibility Criteria are categorized into factors such as educational qualification, age limit, Nationality and character.
You are eligible for the MP Judiciary Exam 2023 only if you satisfy the age limit criteria prescribed by the exam conducting body. Otherwise, your candidature will be cancelled.
Now, if you are a practising advocate, you don't have to generate a certificate of continuous practice.
This is in context to a recent advertisement requiring lawyers to have at least 6 vakalat namas per year in orders or judgements to be eligible for the post of Civil Judge.
The latest ruling suggests this requirement might not be strictly enforced if the candidate can prove continuous practice.
As per the MP Judiciary Eligibility Criteria, the upper age limit is relaxable if you belong to the reserved category. However, the relaxation differs depending on your category.
