How is CAT Exam Result Calculated 2024?

CAT exam result validity or CAT scores can be used for one academic year only. 

The CAT result percentile is determined in three steps:

• Three marks are given for each correct answer
• One mark is subtracted for each erroneous answer
• For other questions (not MCQs), incorrect answers have no negative marking.

Steps to Calculate CAT Exam Result Percentile

The score for each candidate is first calculated section-by-section, and the overall score is then calculated by adding the section-by-section scores.

This section-by-section and the overall CAT result of 2024 exam (raw scores) are then standardized for a scaled CAT score.

Step 1: Consider the total number of applicants who showed up for the morning, afternoon, and evening shifts of the IIM CAT.

Step 2: Based on the scaled scores attained by candidates in all sections of all candidates who will appear for the CAT 2024, assign rank = R.

If two or more applicants receive the same scaled score in all sections, they will be given the same ranks.

For instance, both candidates will be given rank 1 if they receive the highest scaled CAT score. A rank of 3 will be given to the candidate(s) who received the second-highest scaled score.

Step 3: Now, as indicated below, calculate a candidate's percentile score (P) based on CAT rank list (r):

• P={(N-r)/ N }*100

Step 4: 

Now, round off the percentile score that was calculated (P). Up to two decimal places can be used for this.

For instance, all CAT percentile scores more than or equal to 99.995 are rounded to 100; all CAT percentile scores precisely less than 99.995 are rounded to 99.99, and so on.
